Additive and Blending Control

The requirement for blending and additive control is on the increase. It’s only a matter of time before fossil fuels run out so there is huge demand to look for alternative sources.  These renewable fuels are increasingly blended with traditional fuels at the point of loading.  This reduces the need for extra infrastructure at the tank farms in having blend tanks, pumps, valves and complex pipework manifold control.  Additive and blending control at the point of loading also helps to homogenise the fuels together on the tanker, reducing separation and the risk of damage to wetted parts such as pump, flowmeter and valve seals caused by separated, potentially aggressive fuels such as ethanol.  Getting the accuracy of the blended product is essential.  Many engines particularly older variants are not designed to work with certain renewable fuels and can cause damage if the blend is incorrect.

These days, fuels are not just produced by the ‘Oil Majors’, but are increasingly supplied by supermarkets and other independents.  In today’s competitive environment, fuels need to provide increased performance and also be more efficient.  In some cases the fuel needs to be denatured or have marker dye introduced to signify differing levels of tax duty.

Contrec's additive and blending controllers

Contrec blending and additive control systems provide a perfect solution to these varied and often difficult applications.  Operating either from the control room or in the hazardous area at the point of loading, our flow controllers ensure you get the correct blend in every compartment, on every truck, every time.  Our blending and additive control instruments operate seamlessly either with Contrec’s Load Controllers, or with 3rd party preset controllers.
